Senior / Staff Backend Engineer

Salary: £97,000 to £150,000 + Equity

SNG is partnering with a well funded early stage AI SaaS company that is building a next generation platform, they are now scaling their engineering organisation and looking to hire a Senior / Staff Backend Engineer to help build the core backend systems that power the platform’s AI capabilities.

This position sits within the team responsible for building the backend systems and internal platforms that support AI driven product features. You will work on the systems that allow AI powered workflows to interact with product data, internal services, and user interactions across the platform, this role involves building the infrastructure and APIs that enable AI capabilities to be used throughout the product.

Key Responsibilities

• Build backend services supporting AI powered product features

• Design APIs used across multiple product teams

• Architect scalable backend systems and data models

• Develop distributed systems supporting real time product functionality

• Work closely with engineers across product teams to integrate AI capabilities

• Contribute to architectural decisions as the platform scales

• Support platform reliability, performance and system observability

Technology Environment

Core technologies currently include:

• Node.js

• TypeScript

• Postgres

• React / Next.js

• AI model APIs and agent frameworks

The role is primarily backend focused with some collaboration across the full stack.

Candidate Profile

The team is looking for engineers who enjoy building customer facing product systems rather than purely internal infrastructure.

Strong candidates will typically have:

• 5 to 10 years software engineering experience

• Strong backend development background

• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript

• Experience building APIs and backend services for SaaS products

• Experience working within product focused engineering teams

Interview Process

The process focuses on assessing real-world product engineering ability rather than algorithm puzzles.
